Jana Wibawa: KCJ Engineering director denies abusing Muhyiddin's name to convince contractors

On today's testimony, Datuk Seri Azman Yusoff, the president of the Bumiputera Contractors Association of Malaysia and director of KCJ Engineering Sdn Bhd, denied abusing Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin's name to entice contractors for projects under the Jana Wibawa program. During cross-examination by lawyer Datuk Hisyam Teh Poh Teik, Azman stated that his focus on encouraging more contractors to apply for projects did not equate to a monetary gain for his companies.

He also admitted to having an interest in Addeen Engineering, which is owned by his brother-in-law. However, Azman denied knowing that Nepturis founder Lian Tan Chuan had given RM1 million to KCJ Engineering due to his position as the president of the Malaysian Bumiputera Contractors Association. Azman further stated that he did not know if his cooperation with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) was done to avoid charges.

When questioned by Judge Noor Ruwena Md Nurdin, Azman confirmed his motive for appearing as a MACC witness was to prevent being charged. Muhyiddin Yassin, facing seven charges of abuse of power and money laundering, is accused of using his position to obtain RM225.3 million in bribes for four companies, including Bukhary Equity Sdn Bhd, Nepturis, Mamfor Sdn Bhd, and KCJ Engineering, as well as Azman, in relation to the Jana Wibawa project. The trial is set to resume on September 1.
