Ismail Sabri arrives in court to face asset declaration charges

Former Malaysian prime minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob appeared at Sessions Court in Kuala Lumpur today to face asset declaration charges. The 66-year-old Bera MP entered the court around 8:30 am, greeted by supporters awaiting outside. Charges against him are anticipated to be read by Judge Suzana Hussin during today's hearing. His legal counsel, Datuk Amer Hamzah Arshad, confirmed Ismail Sabri's presence in court to address the allegations.

The initial court date on August 7 was pushed back to today after his counsel sought a postponement as Ismail Sabri was undergoing treatment at the National Heart Institute (IJN). The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) had previously invited Ismail Sabri to provide a statement regarding his asset declaration to the agency.

Additionally, MACC seized RM170 million in cash from various foreign currencies and confiscated 16kg of pure gold bars, valued at approximately RM7 million, during searches at his residences and an office previously used as a "safe house." The investigation targeted four of Ismail Sabri's senior officers, who were arrested in February 2025 for suspected corruption and money laundering activities.
