Impostor

In the annals of deception, one name stands out: Ferdinand Waldo Demara, a man known as "The Great Imposter" in both books and films. This notorious figure allegedly pretended to be a monk, a professor, and an unlicensed surgeon during the Korean War. While the veracity of his various identities remains unverified, Demara's list of assumed personas is nothing short of extraordinary.

Interestingly, another impostor has gained fame in recent years through a movie adaptation. Frank Abagnale, portrayed by Leonardo DiCaprio in "Catch Me If You Can," is a modern-day imposter who wowed audiences with his skills of disguise and forgery. Regardless of one's opinion on these individuals, it is undeniable that the art of impersonation has fascinated and intrigued people for generations.

Even the author admits to having engaged in a similar deception, albeit on a much smaller scale. At the age of 23, the writer posed as a former military commissioned officer (U.S. Army first lieutenant) on a job application. When the potential employer contacted to discuss the position, the author declined. This act of feigning an official title was done prior to the author's enlightenment and understanding of biblical teachings on honesty.

Proverbs 12:22 of the Bible warns, "Lying lips are abomination to the Lord: but they that deal truly are his delight." The author takes this scripture to heart, emphasizing the importance of truthfulness. Despite engaging in a minor deception decades ago, the author remains committed to integrity and honesty in all aspects of life. Over half a century has passed since that fateful job application, and the author remains steadfast in their commitment to truthfulness.
