Impeachment process against Ondo speaker on course — Assembly spokesperson

The spokesperson for Ondo State House of Assembly, Olatunji Ifabiyi, confirmed on Thursday that the impeachment proceedings against Speaker Olamide Oladiji are still ongoing. He firmly rejected reports suggesting that the process had been halted. Ifabiyi stressed that despite efforts to reconcile, the lawmakers had not given up on impeaching the Speaker.

He stated, "We have been hearing reports that we have stopped the process; that is not correct. It is misinformation. We are still on it. He cannot continue as our Speaker."

Ifabiyi admitted that Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has been engaging with some assembly members, but this does not impact the progress of the impeachment process. There is no reversing course, he added. In response, Oladiji denied any impeachment proceedings, claiming that the disputes were resolved through the governor and the All Progressives Congress leadership intervention.

He said, "There is nothing like an impeachment process because the issues have been resolved. There is no impeachment." The Speaker also mentioned that an earlier misunderstanding involving some visitors to the Assembly premises had been cleared. These visitors were youth leaders collecting recruitment forms, but some lawmakers questioned their presence. After explaining their prior attendance, the situation was resolved without any harassment.
