Immobilien: Frankfurter Bafin zieht in frühere Zentrale der Deutschen Bahn

Frankfurt. The German financial watchdog, Bafin, is relocating its office from the city outskirts to the city center. A Bafin spokesperson confirmed to Reuters that the authority will move to the RAW, a university campus in Europaviertel, in 2028. The spokesperson clarified that this information aligns with a report by the German business daily, Handelsblatt.

The building in question is the former Deutsche Bahn headquarters near Hauptbahnhof, the main train station. Currently, Bafin's headquarters are situated in northern Frankfurt. As the lease for their current location in Mertonviertel expires, Bafin conducted "market exploration to identify alternative sites," according to the spokesperson.

The future location offers several advantages, the Bafin official explained. It is more sustainable and efficient due to its energy-efficient retrofitting. Additionally, it provides excellent public transportation access, with an S-Bahn station just a stop away from the Hauptbahnhof. The new office space is also expected to be more modern compared to the current setup.

This office complex, colloquially known as the "Bahnpyramide," was the main headquarters for Deutsche Bahn until their relocation to Berlin in 2021. However, it remained a significant site for Deutsche Bahn until 2021, serving as the headquarters for the Chief Operating Officer and subsidiary divisions for long-distance, regional, and sales operations.

After 2021, extensive renovation and modernization of the listed building complex commenced, recognizing its architectural significance as a prime example of late brutalist architecture. The property is owned by the real estate firm Quest Investment Partners.
