How to update National ID details on your HELB account

Students and beneficiaries who have recently received a National Identity Card can now update their identification information on their Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) account without needing to create a new account. The HELB explains that users who initially established their HEF accounts using their Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) index numbers can simply update those accounts by adding their National ID details.

HELB emphasizes that the login credentials remain unchanged, requiring only the addition of ID information and a quick validation process.

To update the National ID details, applicants must access the HEF portal and log in using their existing KCSE index number account. There is no need to create a separate account solely because a National ID has been obtained. Upon logging in, a pop-up window will appear, guiding users through the process of updating their identification details. This section allows users to link their National ID to their current HEF account by entering or capturing their National ID number and first name.

Accuracy is crucial, as the details entered must match those on the National ID card. After entering the information, click the "Validate" option. The system will process the data and verify the provided details. A pop-up notification will confirm if the update was successful, indicating that the National ID has been linked to the existing account.

Once confirmation is received, users should click the "Register" tab to finalize the process. This allows them to continue using their current HEF account with the updated identification information.

HELB advises users not to create a new account after receiving a National ID. Instead, they should update the existing account created with their KCSE index number by adding their National ID details. This ensures a seamless continuation of the registration process. By following these steps—log in with the KCSE index number, open the ID update prompt, enter the National ID number and first name, validate, confirm the update, and click "Register"—students can easily update their HELB account information to reflect their new National ID, maintaining the same login credentials and avoiding the creation of unnecessary new accounts.
