How Lando Norris has grown even better since his F1 title, as per McLaren

Just over a month ago, it appeared that McLaren might struggle to maintain their F1 driver's title in 2026. At the Hungarian Grand Prix, Mercedes' Kimi Antonelli led the standings with 204 points, while Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri combined had fewer – 103 and 92 respectively. However, McLaren introduced a major upgrade package at the Hungaroring, concentrating on both front and rear corner bodywork, as well as a new floor and rear wing.

As a result, Norris won from pole position and repeated the victory in Zandvoort after executing a round-the-outside move on Antonelli in Turn 1. He is now only 83 points behind the championship lead.

Team principal Andrea Stella is confident that Norris is consistently performing at the highest level, outperforming even his machinery. Stella emphasized that Lando's continuous improvement stems from a unique approach to working with him, which has also been adopted for Oscar. Stella believes that this method has led to consistent advancements for both drivers.

While the second stint of Oscar's performance remains uncertain, overall, there is a positive trajectory for both drivers. However, Norris' improved state of mind and enhanced racecraft have played a significant role in his advancements. Stella pointed out that Norris has demonstrated a higher level of assertiveness and self-confidence, particularly in passing situations, and is now known for backing off when the situation becomes too risky.
