He fled with everyone’s salaries 18 years ago. A steel container in his kitchen gave him away

Ramjit Sakur Yadav, an ex-driver at Mandhana Industries Ltd, was sentenced to three months in prison for stealing Rs 20 lakh. This money was meant to pay the salaries of his colleagues. The theft took place 18 years ago when Yadav grabbed the cash and fled the scene. The steel container found in his kitchen during a police raid provided crucial evidence against him.

In July 2008, the company's director, Purshottam Mandhana, withdrew Rs 20.25 lakh to distribute wages at their Vikhroli unit. Due to heavy rains, the cash was brought back to the Parel office. Yadav, who was employed as the driver, took the cash and escaped. His co-accused, who was charged for receiving the stolen property, was acquitted due to lack of evidence.

The court emphasized that the discovery of unaccounted cash from Yadav's residence was proof of his crime. The judge noted that the sentence was necessary to deter such acts of theft and breach of trust in society.
