Gujarat doctor denied bail. He’s accused of an abortion to cover up rape

The Gujarat High Court has denied bail to a doctor accused of covering up a sexual exploitation and abortion case involving a young woman. The woman's father had filed a habeas corpus petition, claiming she had been missing since June 2025 and was being held against her will by a landlord. The young woman recounted her harrowing experiences, alleging sexual abuse by her parents and the landlord, resulting in her pregnancy.

She claimed the landlord paid Rs 5 lakh to her parents to keep the incident quiet. The court found these allegations serious enough to order a comprehensive investigation. The court also rejected the doctor's bail plea, stating he had "actively participated in destroying and cleaning the evidence" and failed to preserve crucial medical records related to the woman's care.

The court emphasized that a serious offense against a woman had occurred and ordered the woman to be placed in a shelter for women while the investigation continued.
