Ganeshotsav 2026: CM Devendra Fadnavis Directs Mandals To Ensure Hygienic Prasad, Follow Food Safety Norms

Ganeshotsav 2026 is approaching, and Maharashtra's Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has directed Ganesh mandals to adhere to food safety regulations while distributing prasad to devotees. The focus is on ensuring the prasad is pure, hygienic, and free from adulteration. During a meeting on law and order arrangements held at Sahyadri Guest House, Fadnavis emphasized the importance of mandals understanding the rules set by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and seeking guidance to meet minimum food safety standards.

He stressed that mandals should undergo food safety training to ensure compliance. Fadnavis also directed officials to expedite the permission process for mandals, noting that most old mandals receive permissions promptly. He urged the administration to take proactive measures to streamline the process. Fadnavis highlighted the need to maintain good condition and adequate lighting on roads used for idol arrival and immersion across municipal areas to prevent accidents.

He directed the police to monitor violations involving firecrackers and loudspeakers and take necessary action against offenders. The state government will provide assistance to ensure the safety of idol processions, particularly those carrying large idols. Fadnavis mentioned that the High Court's decision from the previous year had significantly reduced challenges faced by Ganesh mandals.

The government has informed the court about its steps to prevent pollution caused by plaster of Paris idols immersed directly in the sea or riverbeds. Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde called for close coordination among the government, administration, and Ganesh mandals to ensure a peaceful, disciplined, and harmonious festival.

He informed that around 1,850 km of roads in Mumbai have been concretised and directed civic authorities to ensure no potholes remain along idol arrival and immersion routes. Shinde urged mandal office-bearers and volunteers to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the police or administration.
