Fubara unveils new hospital, upgraded neuropsychiatric centre

Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State inaugurated a new Neuropsychiatric Hospital and a newly upgraded General Hospital on Thursday in the Rumuigbo area of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area. The projects were initiated after Fubara inspected an old mental health facility and observed its need for modernization. The Neuropsychiatric Hospital, which had a 50-bed capacity, is now a 100-bed rehabilitation center for mental health and substance abuse issues.

The General Hospital, which will cater to the healthcare needs of a large local government area, offers basic units including Accident and Emergency services, consulting rooms, pharmacy, laboratory, X-ray rooms, maternity and postnatal wards, pediatric wards, general and private male and female wards, an operating theatre, and intensive care units.

Both hospitals are equipped with modern diagnostic and treatment facilities, and they each have a new ambulance. The governor emphasized the importance of mental healthcare and urged the local community to take ownership of the facilities.
