FM Sybiha urges partners to strengthen protection of Ukraine’s grain exports after massive Russian attack

Foreign Minister Sybiha called on international partners to bolster safeguards for Ukraine's grain exports following a significant Russian assault on ports, storage facilities, energy, and industrial infrastructure. In a statement on social media platform X, Sybiha described the Russian strike as "state terrorism" rather than a display of strength, stating that President Putin is instead relying on terrorizing Ukrainian cities, ports, and critical infrastructure.

The attacks pose a grave threat not only to Ukraine but also to around 400 million individuals globally, as a single hectare of Ukrainian farmland sustains the dietary needs of 18 people worldwide. Sybiha urged immediate measures to address the aftermath of the Russian onslaught, including additional routes, quotas, grain storage equipment, and collaborative efforts to assure unrestricted maritime navigation.

He also advocated for enhanced support packages to bolster Ukraine's energy resilience prior to the onset of winter. In a recent phone conversation with Malta's Foreign Minister, Sybiha emphasized the necessity of safeguarding civilian shipping in the Black Sea, with discussions centered on the deteriorating security situation in the region.

The conversation also touched upon strengthening international efforts against Russia's illicit trade in stolen Ukrainian grain. Sybiha highlighted the Global Centre for Maritime Sanctions Monitoring's role in intensifying maritime surveillance, fostering information exchange, and thwarting sanctions circumvention. He expressed great appreciation for Malta's solidarity, vowing to further strengthen bilateral cooperation.

The Russian attack inflicted damage on infrastructure, a school, and a high-rise apartment building in Odesa and the surrounding area.
