Dubai to open two new lanes on Emirates Road on August 30

Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) will introduce a 5-kilometre expansion of Emirates Road on August 30, adding two lanes for traffic heading from Sharjah towards Wadi Al Amardi. The project aims to alleviate congestion on one of the primary routes linking Dubai with Sharjah and the Northern Emirates, especially during peak hours.

The expansion will increase the number of lanes on this stretch from six to eight, raising its capacity from approximately 12,000 to 16,000 vehicles per hour. This improvement could potentially reduce journey times by up to 25% during busy periods, according to the RTA.

Emirates Road already accommodates over 240,000 vehicles traveling in both directions daily, carrying private cars, trucks, and serving major roads, residential communities, and industrial and logistics areas. The expansion is part of the RTA's broader strategy to address traffic growth and the increasing urbanization in Dubai and surrounding regions.

The authority considered traffic studies and anticipated population and urban growth when planning this project, with the goal of ensuring the road network can manage future demand. Since recent upgrades along Emirates Road, such as a new access point, enhanced entry and exit points, and altered traffic at various locations, the latest expansion will contribute to providing more seamless and secure travel experiences while improving connections between Dubai and the Northern Emirates.
