Dos Santos shatters 400m mark as world records fall in Zurich

Brazilian runner Alison dos Santos shattered the 400m hurdles world record at the Zurich Diamond League meeting in Zurich, clocking 45.80 seconds. The 26-year-old, undefeated this season, surpassed the 2021 record of 45.94 seconds set by Karsten Warholm. Tokyo 2025 silver medallist Dos Santos showed her prowess by coming through the final hurdle strong, breaking her previous personal best of 46.29, set four years ago.

Shortly after, Masait Russell, an Olympic champion, shattered the 100m hurdles record with a time of 12.09 seconds. Russell, who has been within a tenth of Tobi Amusan's 12.12-second mark five times in recent seasons, secured second place. Dos Santos' and Russell's times set the stage for exciting performances from other athletes, including Audrey Werro and Armand Duplantis, who compete for women's 800m and pole vault records respectively.

British athlete Amy Hunt struggled against top competitors, losing her race against Julian Alfred, while Kenya's Emmanuel Wanyonyi matched David Rudisha's 800m world record, set at the 2012 London Olympics, with a time of 1:41.76.
