Her death was disclosed by her nephew Bryan Seaver through a video message prepared per Parton's final wishes.

In her last interview with People, published on Aug 21, Parton revealed that she had overlooked her health while tending to her late husband Carl, who died in 2025 after an enduring marriage spanning nearly six decades. As she candidly shared in video messages throughout the past year, Parton admitted to neglecting her health concerns while focusing on caring for Carl.

She acknowledged that health struggles were not new to her, stating, "It's not like I haven't been through hard times with my health." Despite her personal health challenges, Parton continued to work tirelessly, remaining an active force in music and philanthropy. Bryan Seaver revealed that Dolly had made it clear in her final moments that she desired to be laid to rest in a bed of plush cotton, as she felt she deserved comfort after a life adorned with heavy rhinestones.

Her team confirmed that, in line with her wishes, a small, private service will be held for immediate family members, allowing her to be reunited with Carl at the Nashville memorial park. Dolly Parton is renowned for her timeless hits like 'Jolene' and 'I Will Always Love You,' and her legacy extends beyond her music to her extensive philanthropic work.
