Dolly Parton Big Screen Retrospective Being Held At AMC Theatres

Dolly Parton's iconic films "The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas" and "Steel Magnolias" are returning to AMC Theatres for a limited run. The two movies, which celebrated the late country star's versatile talents, will be shown at 200 AMC locations nationwide, including in Tennessee, where Parton was born and raised. The discounted screenings will take place from August 28 to September 2, with two matinee showings of each film per day, whenever possible.

In "The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas," Parton earned a Golden Globe nomination for her role as Miss Mona, the owner of a brothel that becomes the target of a moral crusade. The romantic subplot involving Mona and the town sheriff adds depth to the public scandal. The film features Parton's hit single "I Will Always Love You," which would later be covered by Whitney Houston for the movie "The Bodyguard."

"Steel Magnolias" showcases Parton's acting prowess as Truvy Jones, the owner of a Louisiana hair salon. The film follows a group of women as they bond over various life events, including Shelby Eatenton's decision to have a child despite the risks associated with her type 1 diabetes. With Parton's iconic country career alongside her film roles, including the 1980 debut "9 to 5" and 2021 Netflix film "Christmas on the Square," the limited re-release offers fans a chance to revisit Parton's powerful performances.
