CoMaps integration with the wider FLOSS ecosystem – CoMaps

CoMaps, a free and open-source application, values collaboration within the FLOSS ecosystem. This commitment to open-source ideals has prompted CoMaps to work on seamless interoperability with other FLOSS Android apps, ensuring users can access the app's features without compromising their privacy. One such integration is with Gadgetbridge, a free and open-source Android app that enables users to use their smartwatches, headphones, and other Bluetooth devices without relying on proprietary manufacturer apps.

Starting from Gadgetbridge v0.93.0, users can now utilize CoMaps as a navigation data provider, providing turn-by-turn directions on their wrist through a fully FLOSS solution. To enable this feature, users can navigate to Settings > External Integrations > Navigation. Additionally, CoMaps can serve as a navigation context provider for OpenVitals, an app that aggregates health and wellness data in a free and open-source format.

By enabling CoMaps navigation guidance within OpenVitals (found in Settings > Activities > Comaps navigation guidance), users can monitor their activity metrics alongside their bike rides or hiking trails. As with all CoMaps features, users have control over data sharing, and must grant permission for each app to access CoMaps data.
