ColibriTD secures €4M to scale its quantum simulation platform

French quantum software firm ColibriTD has secured €4 million in seed funding to bolster its multiphysics simulation technology and broaden its global reach. The investment round was spearheaded by Earlybird Venture Capital, with backing from SymbiaVC and Medin VC, following a prior €1 million pre-seed round led by Earlybird. Established in 2019 by Laurent Guiraud and Hacène Goudjil, ColibriTD specializes in creating quantum software capable of tackling intricate simulation challenges across sectors such as aerospace, defence, semiconductors, energy, automotive, and finance.

At the heart of their innovation lies H-DES, or Hybrid Differential Equation Solver, a distinctive variational quantum algorithm engineered to resolve partial differential equations (PDEs). These equations find extensive use in multiphysics simulations to model phenomena such as fluid dynamics, material deformation, electromagnetic behaviour, and financial risk. The company's objective is to leverage quantum computing to address industrial simulation workloads that typically demand significant classical computing power.

ColibriTD's software acts as a bridge between quantum hardware and the engineering and scientific applications utilized by industrial clients. The platform maintains hardware-agnostic capabilities, enabling it to function seamlessly across quantum computing systems from various providers. To date, ColibriTD has successfully completed seven co-development projects across six sectors, encompassing defence and aerospace, space and climate science, semiconductor design, nuclear energy, automotive engineering, and quantitative finance.

Notable applications include radio-frequency design for propulsion systems and combustion modelling for various engineering and scientific endeavors.

The forthcoming funding will be allocated towards further refining H-DES and recruiting quantum researchers and engineers to bolster customer projects. Additionally, ColibriTD intends to broaden its hardware, academic, and industrial partnerships, as well as expand internationally as it prepares to scale its platform.
