China’s ‘Ethnic Unity’ law is already harming Uyghurs

China's new Ethnic Unity law, enacted more than a month ago, is having a detrimental impact on Uyghurs and other ethnic groups, according to multiple sources. Despite Beijing's assertion that the legislation promotes cohesion and safeguards minority rights, the opposite appears to be true. Within just a month of its implementation, the law has been causing harm to Uyghurs and other minority populations.

The government must take immediate action to challenge the law and safeguard diaspora communities before it's too late. The new law, which codifies a significant departure from the promise of regional autonomy, effectively embeds Xi Jinping's forced assimilation campaign into all areas of government and public life. This development not only contravenes China's own constitution but also raises serious concerns about the well-being of various ethnic communities within the country.
