Cherki v Maresca could be one of stories of the season

Since the beginning of the last Premier League season, Rayan Cherki has delivered more assists from open play than any other player in the league. During a crucial match against Bournemouth on Sunday, Cherki came on as a substitute and played a pivotal role in Manchester City's remarkable comeback win. The France playmaker's assist was instrumental in Marc Guehi equalising and Josko Gvardiol scoring the winning goal in added time.

Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca expressed his relief and praise for Cherki's performance, noting that he brings moments of quality when City struggles in the final third. Despite his recent contributions, Cherki has yet to secure a regular starting spot for City. Videos emerged showing Cherki showing apparent displeasure towards coach Didier Deschamps during the tournament, and a recent City documentary revealed questions about his attitude before he joined Manchester City for £30 million in June 2025. Maresca stated that Cherki is clear when he is unhappy and that he will help City moving forward.
