CDA Doesn’t Know Why Sector G/6 is Drowning in Garbage

The Capital Development Authority (CDA) is puzzled over the deteriorating condition of Sector G/6/3 in Islamabad, where sanitation and green area upkeep have reportedly gone awry. On August 26, CDA inspectors discovered heaps of garbage, dry leaves, cut branches and other organic waste strewn about various spots in the area. The inspection also revealed a lack of adequate oversight for sanitation and maintenance activities.

The Environment Secretary was issued warning notices directed to three senior officials - Director Solid Waste Management (SWM) Malik Atta, Deputy Director SWM Atta Bari, and Inspector SWM Faisal. The notices stated that senior management had repeatedly instructed these officials to maintain cleanliness, remove waste and carry out proper upkeep, yet the situation had not improved. CDA deemed the alleged neglect and non-compliance with directives as unacceptable.

The three officers have been given three days to provide written explanations and clarify why departmental proceedings should not proceed against them. CDA threatened that if a response is not submitted within the allotted time, they may take action under relevant rules without prior warning.
