Canadian World Cup hero Stephen Eustaquio signs with Swansea City

Stephen Eustaquio, the Canadian World Cup hero, has signed a two-year contract with Swansea City, the Welsh club looking to return to the Premier League. The 29-year-old midfielder, who joined from Portuguese club Porto, expressed his excitement about working with head coach Vitor Matos, a former teammate at Porto. Eustaquio, born in Leamington, Ont., to Portuguese parents and representing Canada at the last two World Cups, stated that the opportunity to reunite with a coach he knew well and help Swansea achieve their goals was the main factor in his decision.

Swansea finished 11th in the Championship last season, making their promotion to the Premier League a challenging but potentially rewarding prospect. Eustaquio, who has 61 caps for Canada, revealed that the chance to play in front of a passionate home crowd and potentially create a special season motivated him to accept the move. He will wear No. 46 for Swansea and could make his debut against Derby County this weekend.
