Barcelona signs Croatia goalkeeper Dominik Livakovic from Fenerbahce

BARCELONA, Spain (AP) — Barcelona has signed 31-year-old Croatia goalkeeper Dominik Livakovic from Turkish club Fenerbahce. The goalkeeper agreed to a contract extension until 2030. The 31-year-old is expected to play a reserve role in the squad, which already features regular starter Joan García and veteran Wojciech Szczesny. Barcelona recently loaned out Germany goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen to Ajax.

The financial details of the transfer were not immediately disclosed. Livakovic began his career with NK Zagreb in the Croatian first division before joining Dinamo Zagreb in 2016-17, where he stayed for seven seasons. After two years with Fenerbahce, he moved to Girona on loan. He returned to Dinamo Zagreb this year on loan after being criticized by Girona's coach Míchel for not prioritizing the club.

Míchel claimed Livakovic refused to play in a match and wanted to leave the team, stating the goalkeeper was only concerned about the World Cup. Despite the controversy, Livakovic has been a consistent presence in the Croatia national team since 2017, participating in the last three World Cups and the last two European Championships.
