Back in Britain: Harry and Meghan return with children amid royal reconciliation speculation

On August 27, Prince Harry, his wife Meghan, and their two children arrived in Britain, according to UK media reports. The royal couple had recently announced their relocation from the United States following their decision to quit Britain in 2018 due to a royal feud. They touched down at Birmingham Airport in central England aboard a private jet, as reported by The Telegraph and other media outlets.

Their spokesperson, however, declined to comment on their arrival, stating, "this is not something we would comment on," per BBC.

The Telegraph reported that the pair plans to remain in Britain for an "extended period," living in a home in the Cotswolds region, central England. They have also enrolled their children Archie, seven, and Lilibet, five, in a private school in the Cotswolds for the upcoming academic year, according to UK media outlets.

Speculation has been rife regarding the reasons behind their return to Britain and whether the visit is permanent. Reports have noted that the couple intends to retain their existing homes in California and Portugal. The couple's children, Archie and Lilibet, have already been enrolled for the start of the academic year in September at a private school in the Cotswolds, as per the Daily Mail.

Harry and Meghan, who hold the titles of Duke and Duchess of Sussex, parted ways with Britain amid a bitter falling-out with the royal family. This rift intensified further following a candid interview with US talk show host Oprah Winfrey and a no-holds-barred interview with the same host. Although the prince seemed to mend relations with his father, King Charles III, who is battling cancer, Harry reportedly remains estranged from his brother, Prince William, and his wife Catherine.

Andrew Lownie, a royal expert and historian, told AFP that there is currently a "Mexican standoff," and the royal siblings are likely to continue ignoring each other for now. However, Lownie believes that there will come a point when they have to run into each other. Meghan may face a particularly challenging task in re-assimilating into life in Britain, where she remains unpopular, according to poll results.

Harry has "blurred the distinction between working royals and faux-royal" work, which could be confusing for the public, according to constitutional academic Craig Prescott.
