Austin FC eliminated by Toluca in Leagues Cup quarterfinals

Austin FC's Leagues Cup 2026 campaign ended in a 2-0 quarterfinal defeat to Liga MX side Toluca FC at Sports Illustrated Stadium on Wednesday night. Toluca advanced to the semifinals to face Club León next week after Helinho converted a penalty kick in the 53rd minute following a foul by Oleksandr Svatok on Jesús Ángulo. Austin conceded only their second goal of the 2026 Leagues Cup.

In the 40th minute, Joseph Rosales was sent off for a late challenge on Federico Pereira, and Brad Stuver put up a strong fight, making several crucial saves in a 1-0 match against the current Concacaf Champions Cup holders. However, Austin couldn't find another moment of magic in the game. They were reduced to nine men after Ilie Sánchez received a red card in the 74th minute, and Jorge Díaz Price scored an insurance goal to secure the 2-0 victory for Toluca.
