Anutin shrugs off Cambodian call to arrest him over border visit

Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul dismissed calls from Cambodia to arrest him over his recent visit to a disputed border area, asserting that his actions were in line with Thai law and a bilateral Joint Statement. His remarks came in response to an article in The Phnom Penh Post, which suggested that Cambodian authorities should charge and arrest the Thai prime minister for allegedly trespassing on Cambodian territory during his 23 August visit to Chong An Ma in Ubon Ratchathani province.

Anutin stated, "Really? What should I say?" when asked about the reported call for legal action against him. He explained that he had followed the law and had the Joint Statement, signed by the leaders of both nations, as evidence of his compliance. The Prime Minister also addressed Cambodia's criticism of his recent inspections of military readiness along the border.

He maintained that Thailand was acting in accordance with the Joint Statement, which stipulates that both countries maintain their existing positions. Anutin noted that if both sides adhere to the Joint Statement, it may lead to discussions; however, if Cambodia fails to comply, he was unsure how they could engage in dialogue.

The comments from Anutin reflect the ongoing tensions along the Thai-Cambodian border, where both nations hold differing views on disputed territories and the implementation of their bilateral commitments.
