After 17 Years, Okin Biscuits Production Line Roars Back to Life in Offa

After 17 years of dormancy, Okin Biscuits' production line has returned to full operation at its factory in Offa, Kwara State. This significant achievement comes after the successful rehabilitation of the line, which involved replacing critical components such as cables, frequency drives, contactors, and motors that were stolen during the factory's inactivity.

The primary objective of this technical trial run was to determine if the production line could be brought back to life. The company emphasized that the focus was on assessing the line's viability rather than the final product's appearance or taste. Yesterday, the first biscuits rolled out of the rehabilitated production line in nearly two decades, marking a major milestone in the effort to revive the iconic Nigerian biscuit brand.

This development was further bolstered by the factory's reconnection to the 33kV Band A electricity grid by the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) on the same day. While the company acknowledged that more work lies ahead, including additional testing, calibration, and rehabilitation, as well as achieving the signature Okin taste and quality, the successful resumption of production is being celebrated as a momentous occasion.

Founded in 1980, Okin Biscuits has been a beloved indigenous biscuit brand in Nigeria, and its return to the market is anticipated to reignite consumer interest and reinvigorate production at the Offa facility.
