AEDC makes further clarifications on Abuja power outage amid clash with TCN

The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) has confirmed power has returned to normal in Abuja and its distribution area after resolving transmission line issues from the Shiroro Transmission Station. This comes after a dispute between AEDC and the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) over the cause of reduced electricity to the Federal Capital Territory.

Initially, AEDC reported power allocation dwindling from 641 megawatts to 314 megawatts due to tripping of 330kV lines supplying Abuja from Shiroro. However, TCN disputed this claim, insisting the lines were functioning and the reduction was due to low national grid power generation. AEDC later announced on August 27 that transmission constraints affecting power supply in Abuja and other areas had been fully resolved, attributing the restoration to TCN fixing issues at the Shiroro Station.

Despite this, the two entities still disagree on the transmission line tripping being the root cause of the power shortage, leaving the exact trigger of the recent electricity outage unresolved.
