1,476 warga Myanmar pulang secara sukarela pada 29 September

On September 29, a total of 1,476 Myanmar nationals will voluntarily return to their home country through the Voluntary Return Program. This marks the first phase of the program, targeting 5,000 eligible Myanmar refugees, including individuals verified by the Myanmar government. The voluntary return program is carried out safely, responsibly, and in accordance with agreed procedures between the Myanmar government and Malaysian authorities, according to the Malaysian Home Ministry statement.

During this process, two military vessels and one naval hospital ship will be utilized for transportation. The Home Ministry further announced that this year, a total of 4,008 Myanmar nationals, primarily of Rohingya ethnicity, will be redirected to the Displaced Persons Registration (DPP) program. DPP allows the government to maintain its own database on refugees, collecting basic information such as identity, biometrics, and background of the refugees before conducting safety screening.

As of August 15, there were 10,388 Myanmar nationals in immigration detention centers, encompassing all detained Myanmar citizens who cannot be considered refugees. The immigration authorities, in collaboration with the police, are conducting the DPP process to verify the identity, citizenship, immigration status, refugee claims, and safety background of each individual.

It is expected that this group's DPP registration process can be completed by the fourth quarter of 2026. Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim previously informed Myanmar that it agrees to reaccept 5,000 of its refugees in Malaysia, following diplomatic discussions and positive relations between the two nations.
