'You Are Not Alone, The State Is With You': Nepal PM Balen Shah’s First Statement After Flash Flood; Mobilises Forces, 100 Beds Reserved, Over 250 Rescued

Kathmandu: Nepal's Prime Minister Balendra Shah has issued his first statement following the devastating flash floods in Rasuwa and downstream regions. In a Facebook post, Shah pledged the government's unwavering support, stating that the state would take on all responsibilities for rescue, medical care, food, and shelter. "You are not alone in this difficult time. The state is with you with all its means and resources," Shah declared.

Shah directed the mobilization of Nepal's military, police, and emergency services to conduct search and rescue operations. Additional personnel from other districts were ordered to join the response. The Disaster Management Authority was tasked with coordinating with medical teams, Nepal Scouts, the Red Cross, and securing more ambulances and medical personnel.

Over 250 individuals have been rescued so far, with a priority given to the injured and those still missing. Nepal Army helicopters have played a crucial role in the rescue efforts, with authorities maintaining a standby status for any additional helicopters that might be needed. A total of 100 hospital beds have been reserved at Bir Hospital and the National Trauma Center in Kathmandu for flood victims.

Shah urged the public to remain indoors and exercise patience, emphasizing that rescue teams are working tirelessly to reach those stranded or missing. He also asked those unable to contact their loved ones to avoid panicking and to rely on official updates from government agencies. The Prime Minister also appealed for calm, reminding the public that the state is fully committed to their safety and well-being.
