Xiaomi will now let you pre-order its first NAS — and at a surprisingly attractive price for customers everywhere

Xiaomi's first NAS starts at CNY 2,699 with drives included, uses the same chip as Synology's 2023 budget boxes, and isn't yet available outside China.

Xiaomi will now let you pre-order its first NAS — and at a surprisingly attractive price for customers everywhere

Xiaomi has begun accepting reservations for its first Network Attached Storage (NAS) device, the Xiaomi Smart Storage, on JD.com ahead of its general availability. The Chinese-only launch comes with three different storage configurations – 4TB, 8TB, and 16TB – priced at CNY 2,699, CNY 3,499, and CNY 5,499, respectively.

The device is powered by the same Realtek RTD1619B chip that Synology used in its 2023 DS223 models. However, Xiaomi has managed to equip the NAS with more RAM and faster networking than what Synology offered. It also includes an HDMI port, which neither Synology's DS223 nor DS223j has.

The compact NAS unit measures 200.5 by 85 by 161 mm and weighs 2.3 kg. It features dual SATA bays that accept either 3.5-inch or 2.5-inch drives, runs on a Realtek RTD1619B quad-core ARM processor with 4 GB of RAM and 32 GB of onboard storage, and offers 2.5-gigabit Ethernet, HDMI, and USB-A ports.

While Xiaomi's NAS supports a maximum capacity of 60TB, it is smaller compared to other NAS offerings. It also comes with a companion UPS accessory priced at 349 CNY. The reservation window for the Chinese customers closes on August 27.
