Wright State volleyball: Raiders return key pieces from championship team

Wright State University's volleyball program, led by head coach Travers Green, has made a strong return to form following their championship season, with several key players from last year's successful team returning. This season marks the first time the NCAA has allowed high school teams to compete in the Nutter Center, providing a unique opportunity for them to showcase their skills.

Green emphasizes that while past success is not a guarantee of continued dominance, having players who have contributed to previous victories can be a significant advantage. With seven players from last season's Horizon League championship returning, combined with new additions, the team is poised for growth and improvement.

Returnees Lauren Yacobucci and Reilly Zegunis, both seniors, made the first team due to their consistent performances and leadership. Mya Ayro and Katie Sowko, juniors, were recognized for their versatility and reliability on the court. Fresh from a successful college softball career, Haidyn Sokoloski brings valuable experience and maturity to the team.

Freshman Abbey Knight, an outside hitter, is expected to make a significant impact with her strong performances in exhibition matches and her ability to enhance the team's offensive strategies. The season will be challenging, with a demanding non-conference schedule, but the return of key players and the addition of seasoned newcomers provide Wright State with a solid foundation for success.
