Warriors Sign Ex-Celtics Forward to Help Stephen Curry

The Golden State Warriors have bolstered their roster with the signing of former Boston Celtics forward Georges Niang. ESPN's Shams Charania announced that Niang has committed to a one-year contract worth $3.9 million with Golden State. Standing at 33 years old, Niang is a proficient 3-point shooter, boasting a career average of 39.9 percent accuracy from beyond the arc.

This addition aims to provide the Warriors with an extra offensive weapon, creating more spacing on the court for playmakers like Stephen Curry, Jimmy Butler and Draymond Green.

Interestingly, Niang has not played a single game for the Boston Celtics; however, he spent a brief period with them, serving as part of the Kristaps Porzingis trade to the Atlanta Hawks in July 2025. Subsequently, the Celtics acquired Niang from the Utah Jazz on August 6, 2025, before ultimately deciding to part ways with him due to financial considerations.

Despite his brief tenure with the Celtics, Niang expressed a willingness to move on professionally, stating that he would have loved to play for his hometown team but acknowledged the necessity to remain professional and move forward.

Niang's absence from the Celtics last season was attributed to a foot injury. In 2024-25, he averaged 9.9 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 1.4 assists while shooting 40.6 percent from the 3-point line. Over the course of his career, two-thirds of his shot attempts have been from beyond the arc. The Warriors' move to acquire Niang aims to provide the team with a dependable frontcourt shooter capable of opening up the floor and creating more opportunities for their star players.

Alongside Niang, the Warriors also inked a one-year deal with Brandon Williams, completing their roster at 15 players.
