Vidyavihar Campus Celebrates World Gujarati Language Day With Cultural Festivities

Mumbai: The K. J. Somaiya College of Arts and Commerce's Vidyavihar campus celebrated World Gujarati Mother Language Day and the 193rd birth anniversary of poet Veer Kavi Narmad. The event, organized by the college's Gujarati Sahitya Mandal and the Senior Citizens’ Mandal, Ghatkopar, began at the Kalidas Auditorium. Tributes were paid to literary figures before musical performances of traditional poetry and folk songs.

The college honored Riddhi Vora with the 'Pride of Gujarati' distinction, a multi-talented alumna who works in tech and arts. Vora, an RJ at Google and a master's holder in Gujarati literature and commerce, spoke about how her language upbringing shaped her career. A culinary festival, Gurjari Vangi Vaibhav, ran earlier in the week, attracting around 1,000 students and staff with diverse dishes like khakhra pizza and fafda nachos.

The celebration, backed by college authorities including Principal Dr. Kishan Pawar, KJSSLL Director Dr. Veena Sanekar, and Dr. Hitesh Pandya from the Gujarati Department, showcased the blend of heritage, modern art, and youth culture in Eastern Mumbai.
