US Justice Department claims Chinese state-sponsored hackers infiltrated systems at NASA, Senate, Federal Reserve, and more — FBI moves forward with domain seizures

U.S. authorities announced on Tuesday the seizure of internet domains allegedly utilized by Chinese hackers targeting government agencies and critical infrastructure. The Justice Department and FBI disclosed that the seized domains were associated with a Chinese state-sponsored hacking group named QTFY, as well as the hacking platforms QScan and QTRouter.

Notable victims of QTFY's cyber intrusions included NASA, the Federal Reserve, the U.S. Senate, and key departments such as Energy, Justice, and Health and Human Services. Private sector entities targeted allegedly encompassed hospitals, universities, telecommunications providers, power companies, financial institutions, and defense contractors.

Federal law enforcement seized the PRC's malevolent software, marking the latest in a series of technical operations aimed at dismantling indiscriminate hacking activities sponsored by the People's Republic of China, as stated by Attorney General Todd Blanche. FBI Director Kash Patel emphasized that the operation had disrupted a global botnet and hacking platform employed by Chinese state sponsors.
