Update für Meta-Messenger: WhatsApp stärkt Konto-Schutz - 3 neue Sicherheits-Features

WhatsApp has rolled out three new security features to help users better protect their accounts and personal information. Firstly, users can now create multiple Passkeys for a single account, which proves particularly useful for those who use both iOS and Android devices simultaneously. Passkeys are login methods that eliminate the need for passwords and utilize automatically generated cryptographic keys that are exchanged in the background.

They are considered highly secure as they cannot be easily stolen, guessed, or forgotten, similar to passwords. Secondly, WhatsApp has strengthened the two-step verification process by allowing users to set their own passwords in addition to the six-digit PIN. This verification option is optional but highly recommended, as it will be required to reset the account in the future.

WhatsApp will periodically prompt users to enter their PIN or password to prevent it from being forgotten. Lastly, users will receive additional information about incoming calls from unknown numbers that are not saved in their contacts, such as whether the number is from another country or if the user shares group memberships with the person.

This contextual information aims to assist users in deciding whether to answer the call, as scammers may be lurking on the other end. However, these added caller details are currently only available on Android devices.
