UP government doubles MBBS, BDS interns’ stipend to Rs 25,000

Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh Cabinet has approved a significant increase in the internship stipend for MBBS and BDS students undergoing rotations at government medical colleges, institutions, and universities. The new stipend of Rs 25,000 per month will more than double the current monthly allowance of Rs 12,000. This proposal was approved during a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday.

The government had previously increased the stipend from Rs 7,500 to Rs 12,000 in 2021. Currently, medical students receive a monthly stipend of Rs 12,000 during their internship, which includes assisting doctors in treating patients, participating in emergency services, wards, OPDs, and night duties. This move aims to provide much-needed financial relief to these students and encourage them to complete their rotations at government medical institutions across the state.
