Uefa poised to lift boycott threat after Fifa promises no World Cup sale repeat

Uefa is set to lift its boycott of the World Cup and other Fifa tournaments following the failure of Gianni Infantino's controversial sell-off proposal. Last month, the European governing body and all 55 member associations announced their intention to boycott all Fifa-sanctioned events until Infantino abandoned the plan. According to The Guardian, Uefa officials will inform their executive committee and 55 member associations' presidents during a meeting in Monaco on Thursday that Infantino's conditions have been met.

Six European teams, including England, are scheduled to travel to Poland for the Fifa Under-20 Women's World Cup, which begins on September 5th. This development also resolves any lingering doubts about the senior England women's football team, as they prepare to compete in play-offs to qualify for the 2023 World Cup in Brazil. Uefa has not altered its stance on Infantino's presidency, with several associations already withdrawing their support ahead of the upcoming presidential election.

The meeting will address Infantino's future and Uefa's subsequent actions, occurring before the Champions League league-stage draw in Monaco on Thursday at 5pm BST. Infantino faces increasing pressure from three major confederations, AFC and Concacaf, to resign, along with discussions of a potential vote of no confidence. Concerns have also been raised regarding the inauguration of the Fifa Peace Prize, awarded to former US President Donald Trump in December, as well as the reversal of a ban on American forward Folarin Balogun during this year's World Cup.
