Two Doctors, One Infected, Recall Their Fight Against Ebola

In 2014, a deadly Ebola outbreak struck West Africa, claiming the lives of over 11,000 individuals. Kent Brantly, a medical director at an Ebola treatment unit in Liberia, contracted the virus while treating patients. Dr. Linda Mobula, another physician treating Ebola patients, was tasked with caring for Brantly after he became infected.

Despite the experimental nature of the treatment, Brantly and Mobula decided to administer an untested dose of ZMapp to him, hoping it would save his life. Brantly described the harrowing experience of recognizing his worsening condition and the decision to treat himself with ZMapp, which stabilized his health enough for him to fly to Atlanta for further medical care.
