Trump administration pauses all immigrant visa applications worldwide

The revised H-1B visa rules proposed by the Trump administration may not significantly impact Indian IT companies. This is because Indian tech firms have been increasingly reducing their reliance on H-1B visas over the past years. According to Nasscom, India's IT industry body, this shift was confirmed on August 25, as reported by Bloomberg.

The companies have significantly increased local hiring, and there has been a rise in investments in US STEM education. The proposed $103,000 sponsorship fee, part of the White House's latest attempt to tighten the H-1B program, was announced on August 24. The Department of Homeland Security expects to earn around $8.8 billion from the proposed fee on 85,000 visa applications.

Despite the new fee proposal, major Indian outsourcing firms like Tata Consultancy Services, Wipro, and Infosys have reported a reduced dependence on H-1B visas, with only a small percentage of their American workforce requiring visa sponsorship. However, analysts warn that higher fees could still increase costs for these companies.
