Tornado tears through French village, leaving dozens hurt, homes ravaged

A tornado struck the village of Pomas in southwest France, causing significant damage and injury. Thirty-nine individuals were injured, with 15 taken to the hospital, two of whom were in critical condition. One resident recounted how their house collapsed on their pregnant wife. Over one hundred and twenty emergency responders were dispatched to the area, located south of Carcassonne, after winds up to 117 kilometers per hour destroyed roofs and damaged around 300 homes.

Local resident Pierre described the tornado as a "huge red and yellow chimney," noting that "half the village has been destroyed." A Vuelta a España cycling race was also canceled due to a preceding hailstorm. Nearly 2,800 homes across ten villages were left without electricity. Local authorities confirmed no missing persons.
