Tinubu Support Group Threatens to Withdraw Support Over Sheriff’s Campaign Role

The Grassroots Movement for Tinubu Continuity Come 2027 has warned it may withdraw its support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu if Senator Ali Modu Sheriff remains in the APC presidential campaign council. The group's complaint, dated August 25, 2026, was aimed at Sheriff's appointment as the North-East Zonal Campaign Coordinator.

Comrade Sani Ahmad Zangina, the group's national chairman, stated that while the organisation remains committed to Tinubu's re-election, it cannot continue voluntary support under this arrangement. Zangina cited longstanding allegations linking Sheriff to Boko Haram, arguing that these could affect public perception and grassroots morale.

Despite denying any wrongdoing, Sheriff has consistently denied involvement in or sponsorship of Boko Haram. The Grassroots Movement's ultimatum follows similar concerns raised by the Nigeria Rescue & Renewal Movement (NRRM), which called for a review of the campaign council. However, the group went a step further, threatening to suspend its voluntary mobilisation if Sheriff's position remains unchanged.

The group urged the APC leadership to reconsider Sheriff's appointment, emphasizing that its objection is solely to his role in the campaign, not to Tinubu's re-election bid. The group remains committed to Tinubu's candidacy and promised to monitor the situation, engaging with the APC leadership on issues affecting grassroots mobilisation.
