President Bola Tinubu has mourned the untimely passing of Dotun Oladipo, the former Political Editor of The Punch and founder of The Eagle Online. In a statement released on Wednesday by his Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu described Oladipo's death as a "painful loss to Nigeria’s media industry and the nation at large."

The President lauded Oladipo's significant contributions to journalism, especially his years of diligent service in political reporting and dedication to providing Nigerians with accurate information through print and digital media. Tinubu emphasized that Oladipo's professional journey highlighted the crucial role journalists play in fostering democracy, safeguarding public officials, and facilitating open public discourse.

He remembered the young journalist's fervor for his craft and his pivotal role in advancing digital journalism, a legacy he established after a distinguished career at The Punch. "Dotun Oladipo’s death at the age of 56 is a painful loss to the Nigerian media community and to our nation," Tinubu stated. "He was a committed journalist who devoted significant years to enlighten the public and advance our democracy.

His work in political journalism and the digital media arena will forever be remembered." The President conveyed his deepest sympathies to Oladipo's family, colleagues at the Government of Communications and Postal Services, and friends, pledging to pray for God's eternal rest for the departed and strength for his loved ones to cope with this irreparable loss.
