Three kidnapped victims regain freedom in Enugu

Three individuals who had been abducted in Enugu have been freed by police, and two locally-made firearms, along with other evidence, have been recovered. The Enugu State Police Command disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday. The rescue took place following a tip-off from an Anti-Cultism Sub-Unit operative on August 18, 2026, at around 1:30 am, while the officers were on patrol along the Port Harcourt Expressway.

Acting swiftly, the police pursued the suspects to Hillview Road, Independence Layout, where they abandoned their vehicle, firearms, and fled on foot. The victims, unharmed, were rescued with assistance from the Neighbourhood Watch Group and other community members. Apart from the victims' car, the police recovered various exhibits including a Beretta-like pistol with five rounds of ammunition, a locally-made cut-to-size firearm, and a mobile phone.

A manhunt is now underway for the suspects, and the police are intensifying their investigation. The Commissioner of Police, Mamman Giwa, praised the police officers, Neighbourhood Watch members, and residents for their support in the rescue operation, and urged the public to remain vigilant and provide timely information to help prevent crime and apprehend suspects.
