Teraju to pitch ‘national skill passport’ for budget consideration

Strategic services division senior director of Teraju, Nik Nazree Nik Abdul Rahman, unveiled the "national skill passport" proposal, MYSkill ID, to the finance ministry's budgeting team in Cyberjaya. Ah, Huzairy Zaharuddin, a Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) student, presented the platform during the GenBajet2027 student policymaking competition, which won him the first prize.

MYSkill ID is designed to aggregate educational and upskilling data across various training bodies, including technical and vocational education and training (TVET). According to Huzairy, the platform can identify the skills that the country needs and verify who possesses those skills, enabling industry players to access the talent and training frameworks made available by the Human Resource Development Corporation (HRD Corp).

Nik Nazree expressed hope that the presentation would lead to the implementation of MYSkill ID in the 2027 budget. In his presentation, the senior director also highlighted the need for a significant portion of budget allocations to be directed towards the development of Bumiputera enterprises in high-impact industries, such as the energy transition sector.

As of now, 67% of the Putera35 initiatives, 132 initiatives under the Bumiputera Economic Transformation Plan 2035, have been successfully implemented. Nik Nazree anticipates the publication of a Putera35 implementation performance report by the end of the year. The senior director expressed hope that the budget would provide Teraju with the necessary funding to ensure the effective implementation of initiatives, including MYSkill ID.

The 10-year Putera35 plan, introduced in 2024, aims to transform Bumiputera development and make Malaysia a regional economic leader.
