Suspect in Killing of Chinese Student in Gyeongsan Taught at Victim’s University

A Chinese student, reportedly 25 years old, who was studying at a graduate school in Gyeongsan, North Gyeongsang Province, was discovered dead at the home of a fellow Chinese national in the area on the previous day, according to police. The investigation revealed that the victim had been missing for five days after she went missing, and was found at the residence of a man in his 30s, whose surname was Jeong.

Jeong had initially reported the student missing last Friday, following her loss of contact with family and acquaintances.

According to police, the student had returned to China during her summer break prior to her return to Korea on August 14 to attend her graduation ceremony. Jeong informed the police about her disappearance around 7 p.m. on the day of her disappearance, stating that the student had informed him she was going to Daegu, approximately 15 kilometers away from Gyeongsan, but that he had been unable to reach her since.

Suspicion eventually turned towards Jeong as inconsistencies were found in his statements during questioning. The Chinese consulate in Korea subsequently demanded severe punishment for the perpetrator.
