Spurs sign Man City’s Savinho

Tottenham has signed Brazilian winger, Savinho, from Manchester City for a reported initial fee of £75 million ($102 million). The 22-year-old had difficulty in establishing himself as a first-team regular during his two seasons at City. However, Tottenham hopes Savinho can bring pace and creativity to their attack after narrowly avoiding relegation in the previous Premier League season.

Roberto De Zerbi's intervention at the season's end was instrumental in preventing the team from dropping to the second tier of English football for the first time in 49 years. The Italian's substantial spending on the Tottenham squad began with a poor result against Brentford in the opening weekend of the Premier League season.

Savinho enhances Tottenham's roster alongside Mateus Fernandes, Sandro Tonali, and Jan Paul van Hecke. Marcos Senesi, Andy Robertson, and Martin Dubravka have also arrived on free transfers. Manchester City might receive up to £10 million in add-ons. Additionally, there is potential for more transfers between the clubs, with Egyptian forward Omar Marmoush expected to leave City for north London before the end of the transfer window.

Savinho joined City from Troyes, owned by City's owners, for £30 million in 2024. He gained recognition during a loan spell at another City Football Group club, Girona, but has not managed to replicate that form in England. In 84 appearances for City, Savinho scored only seven goals as they failed to secure Premier League or Champions League success under Pep Guardiola's final two seasons in charge.
