Sporting Kansas City acquire Owen Wolff from Austin FC

Sporting Kansas City has signed midfielder Owen Wolff from Austin FC, the club announced on Wednesday. In exchange, Austin FC will receive up to $7.6 million in cash and a sell-on percentage. Wolff, a 21-year-old US youth international, will continue to play for Sporting KC's U22 Initiative squad and is under contract until June 2031.

David Lee, Sporting KC's president of soccer operations and general manager, expressed enthusiasm about Wolff's arrival. Wolff, Austin's first-ever homegrown signing, has been a standout player since his debut in September 2021. He contributed 10 goals and 23 assists in 147 games across all competitions with Austin last season and was ranked No. 4 on the 2025 U-22 list.

Wolff also played a crucial role for the US Men's National Team, helping them reach the quarterfinals at the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup. Sporting KC has been active in the transfer market recently, acquiring winger André Luiz for a club-record fee and offloading two Designated Players. Wolff's move to Sporting KC marks the third time a midfielder has left Austin FC this summer.
