The National Police of Ukraine has successfully concluded a major special operation, dubbed "Rubicon", aimed at dismantling the country's drug infrastructure, the law enforcement agency announced on its website on Wednesday. The operation, which spanned three stages, resulted in the issuance of 367 suspicion notices to individuals involved in drug-related crimes.
Throughout the operation, police forces focused on dismantling the entire drug supply chain, targeting stages ranging from industrial production and warehouse storage to online sales and financial transactions. During the first stage in February, authorities exposed industrial production of synthetic drugs and disrupted transborder supply routes. The efforts yielded over 500 searches, the liquidation of 34 drug laboratories, and the seizure of over 27 million doses of narcotics.
In June, the second phase of the operation focused on exposing an anonymous online sales network, leading to the neutralization of four more drug laboratories, the seizure of nearly 90 kg of drug products worth UAH 70 million, and the blocking of distribution channels. The third stage, aimed at eliminating the remaining criminal elements, involved identifying web resources for selling drugs, their storage locations, and couriers.
This stage resulted in the termination of 56 online drug shops and the liquidation of 64 warehouses for finished drug products.
By the conclusion of the operation, 98 suspects were served with suspicion notices for drug-related offenses. In total, the National Police conducted 1,209 searches, neutralized 42 drug laboratories, and dismantled 56 online drug shops. The total value of seized items, at black market prices, is estimated to be over UAH 540 million. The investigation concluded with 367 individuals being served with suspicion notices in criminal proceedings.
