SpaceX will build a $100 billion Starbase in Louisiana, a 195-square-mile spaceport designed for thousands of annual launches

SpaceX aims to construct a $100 billion spaceport in Vermilion Parish, Louisiana, which could potentially support thousands of launches per year, according to the state. CNBC reports that this facility, named Starbase, LA, will serve as the primary launch site for Starship, SpaceX's largest and fully reusable rocket, designed to fuel their ambitions for expanding the Starlink satellite network, launching orbital data centers, and potentially colonizing Mars.

Musk stated in a video posted to SpaceX's website that the search for the ideal location to build launch pads and secure ample fuel took around seven years. He also mentioned that the spaceport would bring approximately 10,000 highly promising jobs to Louisiana. The state of Louisiana states that SpaceX is projected to create an estimated 3,000 direct new jobs in the next decade and 8,100 indirect new jobs.

SpaceX pledged to collaborate with the state on a historic coastal restoration effort in Louisiana to restore the marsh and ensure storm protection for the area around the new facility.
